Tranquility: Isla Mujeres Yoga retreat

Jan 5-11, 2024

Hosted by: Adrianna Peters and guest TEacher (To be announced)

Are you seeking a tranquil space to relax and retreat?

Come experience the beauty of Isla Mujeres while practicing twice daily yoga and meditation.

Located just steps from the turquoise waters of Playa Norte, we gather together at the edge of paradise to honor and celebrate the beauty of the natural world, each other, the practice of yoga and the culture of the Mayan/Mexican people.

Join us for 6 days and 5 nights for a soul nourishing adventure where we more deeply connect to our physical bodies, our mental states and our spirit.

Experience the tranquility of island life, blended with the flavors and painted with the colors of Isla Mujeres.

Isla Mujeres

means "Island of Women” in Spanish. The island is sacred to the Maya goddess of fertility and medicine, Ixchel. The island was named "Isla Mujeres" by the Spanish because of the many images of goddesses. We aim to honor the pre-colonial Mayan ancestry, people and nature of this land while we are guests here.

Is this Retreat for Me?

This retreat is for you if you are seeking a relaxed adventure, connection with others, and to spend time in personal reflection and self work. We request that mornings are observed in silence until meditation and yoga practice are over.

This retreat is for you if you wish to deepen your practice and understanding of yoga. We will be practicing twice a day, so be prepared to spend a few hours a day in practice. Classes will vary in style and include: Vinyasa, Hatha, Restorative and Yin. Each class aims to deeply honor the roots of yoga as much as we have learned to do.

All genders are invited and can request to share a room with the same gender. We will be staying at Na’Balam resort. Each room is spacious with 2 queen sized beds and a bathroom.

This retreat is for you if you are able to traverse stairs. We are actively looking for retreat spaces that are more accessible for people who use mobility devices and people with disabilities.

This retreat is for you if you feel comfortable and able to travel internationally to this location during these times. It is recommended to book a flight arriving 1 day earlier than the retreat starts in case of cancellations or delays.

This retreat is for you if you are seeking to deepen your relationship to your spiritual practice.

We will have a group Temazcal Ceremony hosted by the locals- who come from a rich Mayan lineage with pre-colonial roots, traditions and practices. This retreat is for you if you are seeking to purify your body with vibrant food, moderate exercise and time in nature.

This retreat is for you if you love the ocean! Isla Mujeres is full of colorful fish, sea turtles, whale sharks, mantas, crabs and everyone else unda da sea!

The intention of this group is to build our chi/energy in a healthy way. For some, that may mean refraining from alcohol, caffeine or other substances that may subtract from overall wellness. For others, that may mean indulging in celebration. We will always come back to center and the purity of the practice during meditation, yoga asana and self development workshops.

The schedule will be full of classes, adventures and balanced with time to relax, explore and reflect. We ask that you do your best to attend and be on time for classes.

When signing up for our Yoga retreat, You’ll receive:

Meditation

In the mornings we will gently arise as we take in the beauty of the rising sun. We will sit in a variety of guided meditations exploring visualization techniques, Pranayama/breathwork practice and chanting ancient mantras. It is a potent time to dream journal and enjoy the sanctuary of your own temple.

Yoga

We will practice yoga twice daily, except on days we have an excursion or ceremony. Morning practice will be a strong Vinyasa or Hatha class. Our Vinyasa class is a more fluid practice, linking breath to movement and holding postures for about 5 breaths.

Our Hatha classes stem from the Sivananda lineage and tend to deconstruct posture, alignment and anatomy in a deeper way. We hold postures for 10-20 breaths.

Meditation will range from silent to gently guided, and will sometimes infuse mantra, or repetitive chanting.

Pranayama

Pranayama translates from Sanskrit to ‘breath control.’ Prana- meaning ‘life force’ or ‘energy source’ and Yama- meaning ‘control’ or ‘restraint’ come together to show us different breath techniques that can be used to alleviate anxiety, or stimulate digestion.

Kayaking, Paddleboarding and Snorkling

We’ll spend a lot of our time in the crystal turquoise waters of the Island. There will be snorkeling gear available to use every day, and afternoon of kayaking and paddleboarding while we lunch by the ocean!

Ziplining!

We’ll spend an afternoon at this gorgeous natural waterpark. Yes- the water really is this color! Zip-line over the pristine protected reef and enjoy the pool, snorkeling, kayaks and paddleboards!

3 Meals a day

From smoothie bowls to tacos with handmade tortillas, we will be enjoying the cuisine of Isla Mujeres. Some meals will be at the hotel, and other out at the vibrant restaurants.

Cacao

We will be enjoying cacao from the Ru’kux’Ulew woman’s co-op in Guatemala. Sharing a delicious chocolate beverage to bring us together in song, laughter and celebration, while leanring about the history, lineage and roots of Cacao Ceremony.

Temazcal Ceremony

An ancient Mayan therapeutic sweat practice that weaves together the elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Air. We sit with local Mayan practitioners and keepers of the lineage to chant, pray and challenge ourselves through the elements to emerge re-birthed from the womb.

GETTING HERE:

Our adventure together will take place at Na’Balam on Playa Norte (North Beach) on Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancun, Mexico. Flight expenses are not included. Please book your flight to arrive in Cancun (CUN) on or before the morning of January 5, 2023. Arrival time for the retreat is 3pm at Na’Balam on January 2nd, so check flight times to give about 1.5 hours to make your way here from the Cancun airport.

From Cancun Airport, van shuttles are available to the Ulta Mar ferry every half hour for $38 (private) or $18 (shared). The UltaMar ferry also departs every half hour from most ports, and you can buy a roundtrip ticket for $22. Our location in Isla Mujeres is about 1.5 hours from the airport. I recommend taking the UltraMar ferry from Puerto Juarez, as they have the most frequent boats running.

Once you arrive on Isla Mujeres, Na’Balam is a 7 minute walk away from the ferry dock. Adrianna will be available via Whats App to help guide you to a safe arrival! A welcome E-mail will be sent when you book with more detailed information. Check in is at 3 pm on January 5, 2023. Opening Circle will take place at 4 pm. Please arrive on time!
